Carnaby Street
Famous for its history as the centre of the swinging 60s London, Carnaby has reinvented itself throughout the decades, with both the Mods and Punks calling the area home. Today, the 14 streets of Carnaby combine over 100 shops with 60 places to eat and drink. The area, in the centre of London’s West End, is in an exciting new phase: holding onto its musical heritage, but now resplendent with street style fashion, cult lifestyle brands and exciting places to refuel after all that shopping.
The London Palladium
The London Palladium is a 2,286-seat Grade II listed West End theatre located on Argyll Street, just a stone’s throw from The Shaston Arms. Renowned for its star-studded performances and televised productions, it is arguably the most famous theatre in London and the United Kingdom, especially for musical variety shows. The Palladium has also hosted the prestigious Royal Variety Performance a record 43 times, with the most recent in 2019.
Piccadilly Circus
Piccadilly Circus is one of London’s most iconic and popular tourist destinations. Relax by the famous statue of Eros, a well-known meeting point, or snap some photos in front of the dazzling advertising screens. From this bustling spot, you’re just a short walk from key attractions like Piccadilly, Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue, and Regent Street.
Oxford Street
Oxford Street is London’s, and Europe’s, busiest retail shopping destination, welcoming around half a million visitors daily. Home to approximately 300 shops, this iconic street stretches from Tottenham Court Road to Marble Arch via Oxford Circus. Officially part of the A40, a major road between London and Fishguard, Oxford Street is primarily accessible to buses and taxis, ensuring a lively yet manageable shopping experience.
Liberty London
No other store in London, or perhaps the world, has such a strong iconic association with design. Mention a ‘Liberty print,’ and vivid images of distinctive shapes, colours, and textures immediately come to mind. Housed in a stunning timber-framed Tudor revival building on Regent Street, Liberty is as much a visual delight as it is a shopping destination. With its intimate staircases, intricately designed elevators, wooden balconies, and glass atriums, it stands out as one of the most unique and aesthetically pleasing department stores in London.
Regent Street
Regent Street, just a stone’s throw from The Shaston Arms, is one of London’s premier shopping destinations. Named after George, the Prince Regent, it was designed by the renowned architect John Nash. The street stretches from Waterloo Place in St James’s at its southern end, passing through landmarks like Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus, before reaching All Souls Church. Beyond this, Langham Place and Portland Place extend the route to the iconic Regent’s Park, making Regent Street a key thoroughfare in the city’s rich architectural and cultural history.
